Privacy Policy

In short: MeteoMate has no accounts, no ads and no trackers. We do not collect data that identifies you, and we never sell data.

What is processed

• Location (coordinates). When you tap "find my location" or open a city, that point's latitude and longitude is sent to our server to fetch the weather. The coordinate is coarse, is not linked to your identity, and is not stored permanently.
• Request logs. Our server records the time, IP address, service called and response time of each API request, solely to prevent abuse and keep the service running. These logs are deleted after 90 days.
• Kept on your device. Saved locations, your temperature unit and notification preferences stay on your device and are never sent to us.
• The "find my location" button. If you grant the browser's location permission, your coordinate is sent to our server only to find the nearest city. If the permission is off, your connection's approximate location is used instead: your IP address is looked up via ipwho.is (or ip-api.com if that fails) and the returned coordinate is resolved to the nearest city. The result is cached for 24 hours under a hash of the IP, not the IP itself. If you never press the button, this request never happens.
• Questions you ask. If you ask the assistant a free-text question in the app, your question and the current weather data are sent to Google Gemini to generate an answer. If you never ask, no text is sent; the advice cards come from a rule engine that runs on your device.

What is not collected

No name, e-mail, phone number, contacts, advertising ID, device ID or location history. The app contains no third-party analytics or advertising SDKs.

Who sees the data

Only the coordinate is passed to the organisations that produce the forecast:

• Turkish State Meteorological Service (MGM) — observations and warnings for Türkiye
• ECMWF / Open-Meteo — forecast models
• KNMI (Royal Netherlands Meteorological Institute) — Dutch observations, forecast and warnings
• Google Weather — the rest of the world
• Google Gemini — only when you type a question
• ipwho.is / ip-api.com — only if you press "find my location" with location permission off

Cookies

No tracking cookies. Only technical cookies that remember your language and temperature unit.

Your rights

Because we hold no identity-linked records, there is usually nothing to erase. You can still write to hello@meteomate.com; we answer GDPR and KVKK requests within 30 days.

Children

MeteoMate is suitable for all ages and does not knowingly collect data from children.

Changes

If this text changes, the date above is updated; significant changes are announced in the app.
